Spirit of Empowerment is the result of two years research and study managed by The Art of Business. A selective market research campaign was initiated in order to establish the issues that women face in this region, at a ‘grass-roots’ level. With the backing of Qatar Foundation and Pearl Qatar, Spirit of Empowerment was realized as a 1-day ‘interactive’ conference held at the Ritz Carlton on May 22, 2007.

The objectives of Spirit of Empowerment were to raise the awareness of women’s issues and the challenges that are apparent in the region; to examine the issues and through hands-on experiences demonstrate how to meet the challenges and become empowered.

Spirit of Empowerment consisted of a series of live debates, each with its own relevant theme/subject and a panel of 6-8 specially chosen guest speakers. The sessions were moderated by well known presenters, Tim Sebastian formerly of the BBC and the Doha Debates and Shahnaz Pakravan of Al Jazeera International.

Each session in the conference was well structured and alive. The chosen speakers were ‘real’ people who had real experiences and success stories to share – people who inspire and provoke debate. Guest speakers, panellists and the audience were able to talk and share an energetic exchange of ideas.

Approximately 300 people from diverse backgrounds attended the event. Including Women and men who are considered active players in society, education, industry and the public and private sectors, as well as University students and Community leaders.

This was an excellent opportunity for women to get together and talk, to share experiences, and to inspire others through those experiences.
